The Portuguese discovered Mauritius Island betwwen 1507 and 1513. 
The island was left uninhabited till 1598 : Dutch settlers came in, then it became a French colony(1715-1810) and finally English invaded it. Their 
position was confirmed by  the treaty of Paris in 1814.
Mauritius became independant in 1968.
