a) si x ∈ [1 ; 3] , à quel intervalle appartient x²  

             1  ≤  x² ≤ 9

car f(1) = 1  et f(3) = 3² = 9

b) si  - 1 ≤ x ≤ 2  alors    1 ≤  x² ≤ 4

car f(- 1) = (-1)² = 1  et f(2) = 2² = 4
